Low Vision Center
The Low Vision Center has moved to 1802 S. Mattis Avenue, Champaign
The Carle Low Vision Center is a place that helps clients adapt to vision loss while enhancing their remaining vision.
Services offered at the Center include:
-
Low Vision Evaluation - A specially trained low vision optometrist evaluates each client's current vision, and based on those findings, may prescribe sight-enhancing devices such as magnifiers, telescopes, or filters.
-
Occupational Therapy - Occupational Therapy helps clients perform activities of daily living. Clients can learn new ways to do things like taking a shower, getting dressed, managing a checkbook, cooking, doing housework, shopping and caring for pets. Therapists assess each client's needs and develop a plan to help them live and work with greater independence and safety.
Many clients have vision loss that cannot be treated with surgery or medicine. This program focuses on ways for individuals to compensate by adapting their environment.
Medicare, Medicaid, your HMO or private insurer may reimburse the fees for many of low vision services when they are requested by a physician. Contact the center at (217)383-6033 for more information.
Many low vision adaptive devices are available at the Center. Call (217) 383-6033 for more information.
