Act FAST Against Stroke
Stroke is the Number 3 cause of death and a leading cause of serious,
long-term disability in America.
Stroke happens when blood flow to the brain becomes blocked. And brain cells begin to die. The sooner you get treatment, the better your odds of survival. That’s why it’s important to be stroke smart. Know the warning signs and act fast.
A simple way to spot symptoms
If you’re looking for signs of stroke, think of the word “FAST”:
-
Face – Sudden weakness or numbness in face; sudden, severe headache
-
Arms – Sudden weakness or numbness in arms or legs
-
Speech – Sudden trouble speaking, seeing or understanding
-
Time to act fast.
Swift action saves lives
Treatment is most effective within the first three hours of the time stroke symptoms arise. If you spot warning signs, don’t delay. Call 911 immediately and ask to be taken to a Primary Stroke Center.
