Carle Foundation 2009 Hospital Annual Report Released
The Carle Foundation has issued its annual report for fiscal year 2009. In addition to detailing the year's major achievements at Carle Foundation Hospital, the report gives an account of the community benefit provided by the Hospital and other Carle Foundation entities.
During the twelve months covered by the report, community benefit totaled $79,176,001. Areas of community benefit include: Hospital services that operate at a loss, donations, research, community and medical education, and workforce development, to name a few.
A critical portion of the community benefit provided is $9,043,695 in free or discounted medical care, the Hospital and other Carle Foundation entities having provided financial assistance to 4,463 uninsured or under- insured patients. The amount of charity care provided is based solely on need as determined by people who apply and qualify.
James C. Leonard, MD, president and CEO of The Carle Foundation, stated, "We are fortunate to have been able to keep our overall community benefit level fairly consistent with previous years during this recession. As a major healthcare provider and charitable organization, we believe strongly in giving back to the communities we serve. I am grateful to our employees and medical staff whose dedication makes this possible, day in and day out."
