Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
In consultation with CRIMCO Manager of Risk Management and Patient Relations and assisted by the Risk Management Coordinator, is responsible for investigating and analyzing actual and potential risks at The Carle Foundation and its subsidiaries, including but not limited to Carle Foundation Hospital and Carle Physician Group.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors Nursing Related Field or Five (5) years experience in risk management or quality.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Registered Nurse (RN) Illinois

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of three (3) years quality or risk management experience in or related to the healthcare industry with demonstrated experience in risk reduction and avoidance. Candidate must have a strong understanding of the legal issues related to the delivery of healthcare in a clinical setting.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the healthcare industry and legal principles. Excellent oral, verbal, presentation and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and sustain positive rapport with internal and external customers. Active listening skills, the ability to suspend judgment and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. Must have working knowledge of personal computer applications, spreadsheets and basic statistical data.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Assists with development of risk managements plans for the organizations.
  • Coordinates and/or conducts educational sessions/seminars for healthcare staff on risk management topics.
  • Determines appropriate level of investigation for reported incidents and claims.
  • Develops and implements risk management policies and procedures.
  • Works with Quality department to review, analyze and summarize data for trends indicating risk issues.
  • Conducts claims investigations and evaluations utilizing, when necessary, external consultants, internal staff and/or committees.
  • Coordinates risk assessments of the various Carle entities and develops/monitors action plans to address areas of risk.
  • Assists with the planning and implementing an organization-wide program for risk reduction and loss prevention.
