Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Vice President of Patient Care / Chief Nursing Officer leads nursing practice at Carle Foundation Hospital and throughout the service area, maintaining consistent and high-quality standards of patient care. Develops and deploys nursing policies, objectives, and initiatives to ensure compliance with established standards. Drives the delivery of quality and cost-effective patient care and oversees the performance of the patient care team. Contributes to the development of the patient care vision, with emphasis on patient outcomes, team engagement, and patient experience. Directs nursing services in accordance with State, Federal, and other regulatory agencies. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the values and mission of Carle Health. Develops leaders, promotes a servant leadership mentality, and builds effective relationships with stakeholders. A visible, accessible, and trusted leader, the Vice President of Patient Care builds the reputation of the patient care division and the organization by consistently supporting staff to deliver excellent patient care and experience.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Master's Degree in Nursing

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License Illinois upon hire and National Nursing Certification Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC) within 1 year.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Ten years of nursing experience, with at least five years of progressive leadership experience. requiredDemonstrated ability to deliver on fiscal objectives, staff engagement, and quality outcomes. requiredSupport for and participation in shared governance structure. required

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Within the framework of our professional practice model, directs the patient care division with a focus on patient outcomes, staff engagement, and patient experience
  • Fosters a culture of professional governance, with emphasis on evidence-based practice, just culture, and continuous improvement
  • Works effectively with academic partners and the community to build healthcare talent pipeline
  • Mentors and builds leaders, plans for the future, and instills a high degree of service, trust, and accountability in the leadership team
  • Active and visible both within the organization and the community
  • Communicates with stakeholders in an effective and professional manner
  • Operates the patient care division with a high degree of fiscal accountability
  • Develops and implements policies and processes aligned with evidence, state laws regarding nurse practice
  • Present on all shifts and in all areas on a regular basis to promote effective relationships and communication
  • Builds trust with consistent behaviors aligned with the values of the organization
  • Serves as a member of the Carle Foundation Hospital administrative team and shares in admin call rotation
  • Works closely with other Carle Health Patient Care Vice Presidents to advance care and access throughout the service area
  • Co-chairs the CFH Nursing Care Committee
  • Prepares reports as requested for East Region, Carle Foundation Hospital, and Hoopeston Regional Health Center Board of Trustees
