With this designation, Carle is recognized for being prepared to help you and your new baby get off to the best start. What is the benefit of being a Baby-Friendly® facility?

Evidence shows Baby-Friendly® practices help create healthier children, mothers, families and communities:

  • Kids get sick less, have less risk for obesity, diabetes and some leukemia
  • Moms have less risk for obesity, diabetes, ovarian and breast cancers
  • Families miss less time from work and school because kids are healthier, they spend less money on illness and preventable diseases, no money on formula
  • Communities spend less time, energy and resources on formula, illnesses and medical needs

As a Baby-Friendly® facility, you can expect the following from us:

  • Skin-to-skin at delivery for all new moms – we will not take your baby from you but rather, allow you to hold the baby immediately at birth as long as you and baby are healthy.
  • Rooming in – we keep all moms and babies together. Research has shown that moms do not sleep better in the hospital away from their babies. Moms are also provided around the clock nursing help to learn their babies’ normal cues for their needs. Most all testing can be done in the room.
  • Feeding assistance – evidence shows that the best first feeding is breast milk. The best way to establish milk supply is to have the baby with you to feed on demand. However, should you plan or need to bottle feed, we will support your feeding method of choice and assure that you know the appropriate method of formula preparation and care for your feeding supplies.
  • Lactation support from trained Maternal Child staff or the Lactation Consultants throughout your stay.
  • Community support information for continued breastfeeding needs/support.
