Prenatal Appointments

Your Prenatal Intake Visit

This first prenatal appointment is designed to confirm your pregnancy and discuss your general health. The nurse or CMA (certified medical assistant) will collect the following information:

  • Personal medical history
  • Family medical history (for you and for the father of the baby)
  • Any risk factors that may impact your pregnancy
  • Previous pregnancies and surgeries
  • Current medications, including over-the-counter and prescription medications

Your Initial Prenatal Appointment with a Provider

Your second prenatal appointment will be scheduled with an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM). If you are already established with an APP or CNM, we will make every effort to make your first prenatal appointment with that provider.

If you are new to our department, you can choose a care provider. During your first visit with the APP or CNM, we will assist you in this process to best meet your medical and personal needs. At this visit, we will review the history taken at the first visit, discuss routine and optional prenatal testing, perform a full physical exam and help arrange ongoing care needs.

We will also ask for some blood work to be completed at the end of this initial appointment. This appointment will be longer than routine prenatal appointments.

Routine Prenatal Appointments

Your routine prenatal appointments will be scheduled at regular intervals with the frequency depending on your specific health needs. Routine visits involve weight and blood pressure checks, urine sample analysis and fetal assessment. Ultrasounds will be done based on individual health and pregnancy factors.

Please bring any questions you may have about your pregnancy, symptoms and your general health to your prenatal appointments.
