Community Benefit
At Carle, we focus on providing the highest quality care to patients while also providing tangible benefits to the community.
Community benefit is central to Carle’s long-term goals, because we understand that supporting our neighbors in need makes the community a better place for everyone. In 2017, Carle provided $184 million in services, donations and support to our community, which included $2.4 million in free or discounted care to more than 34,500 patients.
A report of Carle Foundation Hospital’s community benefits provided in 2017 has been filed with the Illinois Office of the Attorney General, a requirement for not-for-profit hospitals.

Philanthropy
Carle was founded on philanthropy, when Margaret Burt Carle Morris gave a generous donation in 1918 that started the health system we know today.
Since then, thousands of donors have contributed to hundreds of projects that go the extra mile for our patients. Donations from friends like you have helped build better facilities, provide better equipment, and fund education and research. Each year, more than 800 volunteers give more than 130,000 hours to Carle – from our entryways to our clinics and our hospital floors. And we have a strong vision to ensure that countless families enjoy more of the moments that matter.
