Fields of opportunity growing in southwest Champaign

After two years of preparation, construction is nearly complete at Carle at The Fields (CATF), bringing employees from 10 leased offices throughout Champaign-Urbana into one new owned facility allowing for improved efficiency and productivity, saving millions annually, and providing resources for future clinical growth.

Carle at The Fields, 3310 Fields South Drive, at the northwest corner of the Interstate 57 and Curtis Road interchange in Champaign, will house departments including Accounting and Information Technology, along with Human Resources, Financial Services and most of Health Alliance.

“By relocating our administrative support teams in one location we’ll be better able to align the space on our campus in Urbana to serve patients,” said Lynne Barnes, Carle Foundation Hospital chief operating officer and senior vice president, Facilities.

Departments are relocating now and moves continue through the spring when 1,200 employees will be under the roof of the facility. One of the earliest departments to move, Human Resources is already talking with job applicants at CATF.

“We look forward to what we can accomplish when we bring various teams together in one site. It’s a move that will help preserve resources in the long run and allow us to continue improving for patients and members,” Barnes said.

The location is easily accessible by car and Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) bus service for current and future employees, Health Alliance group members and to serve some Carle patients’ needs, including health records in a few months.

Growth and development continue at the property including the Carle-Christie partnership with the Champaign Surgery Center and Medical Office Buildings.

Construction is underway for a Hampton Inn hotel and the soon to be opened Little Legends Learning Center.

This week, Green Street Realty announced plans for two mixed-use buildings on the CATF campus with a scheduled fall 2018 opening. The development will consist of restaurants, retail and office space.
