New OB-GYN Carle Health team ready to support regular and specialized care needs.

New OB-GYN Carle Health team ready to support regular and specialized care needs.

A new team is ready to provide more access to care for those who need obstetric and gynecological care in the Greater Peoria community.

A physician, a nurse practitioner and a midwife are now available at Carle Health Proctor Professional Office Center, 5401 N. Knoxville Ave. Currently, there are no obstetric and gynecological services at the Carle Health Proctor Hospital medical campus, filling a much needed gap in care for the community where many specialists in the field are retiring.

“This is such an exciting opportunity to deliver a broad continuum of care in obstetrics and gynecology to the community. We have assembled an amazing team who will competently handle everything from routine exams to complicated patient issues,” Jay M. Collier, MBA, FACMPE, vice president, Clinical Operations for Carle Health Greater Peoria, said.

The team is at the ready to provide compassionate, inclusive care while meeting regular health needs including annual exams, birth control and pregnancy planning as well as more specialized surgical and non-surgical procedures such as minimally invasive robotic and laproscopic surgery and pelvic organ prolapse management.

Bassel Abouzeid, MD, MHCM, leads the team committed to providing exceptional care tailored to individual needs. Fluent in English, French and Arabic, he is already familiar with Carle Health as a resident physician. He will be joined by Madeline Gresham, WHNP, NCMP, and midwife Larisa Savage, DNP, CNM.

All three clinicians will work with other Carle Health physicians to provide a continuum of care. This includes providing care for immediate needs, reducing disease transmission and screening for early detection of cervical, breast and ovarian cancer. In-office appointments and procedures are available at a newly renovated unit inside the office center while more complicated procedures will be at Carle Health Methodist Hospital, 221 NE Glen Oak Ave., where team members have full hospital privileges.

The new team was introduced during an Aug. 8 open house at Carle Health Proctor Professional Office Center.

“Our main focus is to provide personalized care to every woman in our community. Having served the Peoria area for the past 4 years I am very proud to be offering minimally invasive robotic and laproscopic surgeries. The main focus for our team is to provide the best outcomes in the shortest recovery time,” Abouzeid said.

Patients may be referred by their primary physician or self-refer by calling (309) 643-6206.
