As part of Carle Health’s ongoing commitment to meet the changing healthcare needs of the community and offer the best experience for patients, the Carle Foundation Hospital campus will soon take on a new look near Lincoln and University avenues. This will include taking down the building that currently houses Carle Health Pulmonary Rehabilitation and the Carle Auxiliary Resale Boutique.
The rehabilitation unit will continue services without interruption as it moves to a new location at Carle in Champaign on Curtis before the end of the year. After more than 13 years of service, the Carle Auxiliary Resale Boutique will hold its last day of operations on Dec. 20, 2025.
The property has seen many changes over the decades as the hospital grew and evolved to meet the times. Final updates to the area are still being defined, but the changes are made to accommodate an increasing number of patients seeking care and to offer higher quality facilities to the community.
“Given the ever-changing demands of healthcare, it is our obligation to evolve in order to serve patients effectively. The buildings have outlived their lifespan and we are committed to maintaining a high-quality experience for patients and their families,” Nicholas Crompton, vice president, Construction and Facility Services at Carle Health, said.
The Auxiliary opened the Resale Boutique at 810 W. University Ave. in 2012 with proceeds
supporting two areas - the Carle Auxiliary Guest House for families with a loved one receiving critical care at Carle Foundation Hospital and educational opportunities for healthcare professionals.
“The Auxiliary is part of our legacy as an organization, and we’re grateful for those who have given their time to the Carle Auxiliary Resale Boutique. We’re confident those same volunteers will bring their enthusiasm to other efforts organized by the Auxiliary, and the Carle Auxiliary Guest House will remain well positioned to be an important resource for families in their time of said,” Eric Toliver, director, Auxiliary & Volunteer Services, said.
Support for the Guest House will continue through proceeds from sales at the Auxiliary gift shops and Auxiliary fundraisers. Much of the funding for the Guest House comes from generous donations to Carle Health Center for Philanthropy from current and past guests as well as community members and organizations.
As part of the demolition plans, two nearby mostly vacant buildings at 809 W. Park St., and 808 W. University Ave. also will be removed. The Resale Boutique will continue to accept donations of fall/winter apparel, jackets and coats, as well as any holiday decorations and household items until Dec. 20.
