Carle Arrow Ambulance and Cornbelt Fire Protection District (FPD) are taking their long-time relationship to the next level.
Beginning this month, the first-responder partners are expanding an agreement from 1996, which placed a Carle Arrow Ambulance paramedic on duty to provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) in Mahomet 24-7. To provide pre-hospital emergency care even more quickly and comprehensively to the growing community, an ambulance will stay in Mahomet full-time, and Cornbelt FPD will provide full-time EMTs to support the existing paramedic coverage.
“Since 1996, we’ve seen the population we serve grow by 70 percent while medical calls increased by 300 percent,” said John Koller, Cornbelt FPD chief. “This partnership expansion helps fill a great need that’s specific to what Mahomet-area residents and first responders need. We’re the busiest fire protection district in central Illinois, and it’s our job to serve our communities’ needs.”
Carle Arrow Ambulance Director Larry Sapp and West Division Operations Manager Jimmy Zindars, both longtime Mahomet residents, couldn’t be more pleased.
“It was forward-thinking of Cornbelt to provide ALS services in 1996, and making this change now shows how progressive the life-saving teams here truly are to best care for our neighbors, family and friends,” Sapp said.
