Multiple Carle Health hospitals recognized for efforts to improve stroke and heart disease outcomes
The American Heart Association (AHA) is recognizing 80 hospitals across Illinois as part of their Get With The Guidelines® initiative. Carle Health is proud to be one of the few downstate health systems receiving multiple recognitions. Adherence to Get With The Guidelines® means these Carle Health hospitals have met strict quality achievement measures in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and stroke patients.

This includes proper medication and treatment, reducing mortality rates, quick recovery and limiting disability because of these conditions.

“This recognition is due to the amazing work of our team members,” said Melissa Reidy, Neuroscience nurse manager and Stroke program coordinator, Carle BroMenn Medical Center. “It demonstrates our commitment to our patients and that we effectively use necessary tools, technology and resources to pursue the best health outcomes for those who rely on us to treat these conditions.”

The AHA celebrates Carle Health hospital outcomes including:
  • Carle BroMenn Medical Center
  • Carle Eureka Hospital
  • Carle Foundation Hospital
  • Carle Health Methodist Hospital
  • Carle Health Pekin Hospital
  • Carle Health Proctor Hospital
“Our stroke patients can count on advanced technologies, diagnostic tools and procedures, and team members dedicated to early intervention to help optimize recovery and minimize the effects of stroke,” said Lindsay Kuhns, Stroke Program Coordinator, Carle Foundation Hospital. “We’re committed to providing quality care to patients after a stroke and we’re grateful for the recognition of these efforts by the American Heart Association.”

Carle Foundation Hospital (CFH) is the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in Central Illinois, featuring a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the emergency department. Carle BroMenn Medical Center (CBMC) and Carle Health Methodist Hospital (CHMH) are both Primary Stroke Centers and, like CFH, offer an inpatient rehabilitation unit for patients recovering from a stroke, or other illness or injury.

“We structure our hospitals to intervene quickly because conditions like stroke often come without warning,” Kuhns said. “Early treatment is most effective, decreases chances of long-term deficits and increases the chances of survival. Anyone can have a stroke no matter their age, race or gender. By adhering to the Get With The Guidelines® standards, patients know they are receiving high-quality, life-saving care when they need it most.”
