He’s an expert in multiple types of advanced cancer therapy, especially for those who haven’t found success with the usual treatment options.
Working primarily at the University of Chicago Medical Center, Dr. Bishop brings his expertise to Carle Cancer Institute Urbana for the twice-monthly Clinic for Aggressive Leukemias and Lymphomas – elevating the level of care we can offer patients in our community.
Dr. Bishop and the team consult directly with you, studying your unique case and treatment history. They review advanced cancer therapy options and create your treatment plan. When able, Carle administers the treatment in Urbana.
For more complex and advanced therapies, qualified patients have access to Dr. Bishop’s services at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
Michael R. Bishop, MD, Hematology and Oncology, is an internationally-recognized expert in the diagnosis and treatment of lymphoma and leukemia. In particular, he cares for patients who’ve not responded to first-line treatments. An expert in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (bone marrow transplant) and cellular therapy, Dr. Bishop and his team at the University of Chicago are working to address the social, economic, physiological and biological issues patients face while undergoing treatment. Dr. Bishop has authored more than 150 peer-reviewed articles, 30+ book chapters and two books on cancer treatment and research.
