FirstCarolinaCare Joins Carle Health
Provider-led health plan extends coverage and customer service
Urbana, Ill. – FirstCarolinaCare Insurance Company (FCCI), Health Alliance Medical Plans and the Carle health system (Carle) today begin a joint venture to provide health insurance products in North Carolina. The agreement was first announced in late 2019 and furthers each organization’s ability to deliver high-quality health care coverage and customer service to patients and members.
FCCI, a not-for-profit insurance company now jointly owned between Carle Health and FirstHealth of the Carolinas (FHC), is headquartered in Pinehurst, North Carolina. This partnership supports comprehensive and competitive coverage to FCCI’s group insurance clients and Medicare Advantage members in addition to improving operational capabilities and future strategic positioning.
“We’re excited to join Carle, sharing best practices and resources in addition to learning new ways to engage members on their wellness journey,” said Craig Humphrey, president of FirstCarolinaCare. “As provider-led health plans, both FCCI and Carle share a commitment to deliver the best value for high quality products to the unique populations that we serve.”
Carle will serve as majority owner of FCCI, while FirstHealth of the Carolinas – a not-for-profit health care network licensed for four hospitals – maintains an active role in FCCI as minority owner.
This partnership positions each entity to successfully meet the needs of patients and members in the continually evolving health care industry.
“Activating this partnership with FirstCarolinaCare allows us to strengthen our ability to deliver greater support for members,” said Dennis Hesch, executive vice president for Carle Health and chief executive officer for Health Alliance Medical Plans.
“As a vertically integrated health system, Carle and Health Alliance are uniquely positioned to deliver world-class health care and coverage to patients and members. Partnerships with strong like-minded organizations – such as FirstCarolinaCare – bolster both our ability, and theirs, to meet member needs. Simply, it comes down to providing members with the high-quality, affordable coverage and care they need.”
