While colon cancer is preventable, the American Cancer Society shares that colorectal cancer is the second most common cause of cancer deaths. Screening with colonoscopy allows for treatment of polyps and prevention of cancer. Colonoscopy is the gold standard for colon cancer screening, with higher sensitivity and prevention rates than stool testing.

Colorectal cancer screening is recommended to start at age 45. Routine screenings should continue through age 75, screenings after 75 are based on physician recommendation.

If you are unable to complete a colonoscopy, your physician may recommend an alternative test. Speak to your provider to learn more.
