Non-Clinical (for credit) Internships
An internship at Carle provides practical experience related to a student’s career degree program. These internships are non-clinical in nature and provide administrative experience in a hospital, clinic or office setting. Please note that internships at Carle Foundation Hospital are unpaid, but must meet credit requirements at local educational institutions.
Clinical Rotations (except Nursing and Medical Assistants) For Credit
Carle supports a variety of clinical experiences created for clinical learners enrolled in healthcare related degree programs that require a certain number of direct patient-contact hours. Clinical experiences provide hands-on clinical experience, aimed to meet required standards. Program examples include: Respiratory, Surgical Tech, Pharmacy, EMS/EMT, Physical Therapy, and many more. Student Nurse Internship Program
Junior or Senior nursing students work alongside Carle’s experienced nurses in Med/Surg, Critical Care, Emergency Department or Maternal/Child units.

There are several opportunities to engage with Carle staff to refine nursing skills to prepare students for clinical care.
Carle’s Psychiatric Internship offers hands-on experiences with field experts and now offers a Pre-Doctoral Internship Program in clinical psychology.
Students have the opportunity to volunteer their time in either a Carle clinical or clerical setting. Opportunities provide appropriate experiences for students at diverse levels.
Carle job shadowing positions provide an opportunity to learn about health career options by accompany a professional for a short duration during their day.
Students have the opportunity for non-credited internships. Opportunities are similar to credit internships in clinical and administrative areas on a per request basis only.
Carle’s Returnship Program is designed to help individuals who’ve been on an extended career break get back to work. Raising children, taking care of an aging parent, pursuing a dream – all are important life moments that can take a person away from a career.
The Returnship is a 10-week high-level paid internship to help individuals re-establish skills and connect with potential career opportunities. The program provides opportunities to leverage past knowledge, skills and work experience in various corporate roles. Program includes professional development, mentored training and support in reintegrating into corporate life.
