“I am so honored to be a part of the leadership team at this remarkable institution,” Thomas said. “I am amazed every day at the tenacity, compassion and commitment our team members share with each other and those we serve. I look forward to continuing to build a healthcare environment that Richland County community members deserve.”

Thomas has been with Richland Memorial Hospital since 1999, most recently serving as chief nursing officer and director of Patient Care Services.  Throughout her time at CRMH, Thomas consistently advocated for patients while leading her teams to deliver high-quality care and service. While interim president and chief nursing officer she played instrumental roles to steer the hospital through numerous cultural and operational changes. Her leadership through much of the COVID-19 pandemic has been irreplaceable.

“The Carle team is stronger because of Gina’s leadership and we’re proud to have her guiding the team at Carle Richland,” Matthew Kolb, Carle Health chief operating officer said. “Her dedication to improving the health of our patients, her commitment to her community, and her passion for Carle’s mission make her a great fit as the President of the hospital.”

Thomas received her doctorate of Nursing from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, her Master of Science in Nursing from Loyola University in New Orleans, specializing in healthcare systems management; her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Olney Central College.  She is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Organization of Nurse Leadership, American College of Healthcare Executives and the Illinois Organization of Nurse Leaders.

Thomas’ strong ties to the Olney community and unique perspective will continue the patient-centered approach Carle Richland Memorial Hospital offers to the region.
