The Martens Center is a revolutionary facility dedicated to improving the health of residents in Champaign County. Carle proudly serves alongside several community partners helping to ensure all Champaign residents have resources they need to stay well, close to home.
“Carle Health is committed to providing access to affordable healthcare resources to the residents of our communities," Jonathan Woods, Executive Director of Community Health Initiatives said. "We evaluate the needs of our patients and work to create avenues where we can offer support, such as contributing the creation of the Martens Center. This facility equips Champaign residents with a place to exercise and improve their health embedded right within their community.”
This center features wellness and fitness areas for all age groups and includes indoor and outdoor spaces including a gymnasium, indoor and outdoor playground, walking paths, group fitness center, wellness center, a basketball court, an indoor track, an instructional kitchen and changing rooms.
The facility is above national standards and is within a 10-minute walk for most Champaign residents. Carle Foundation Hospital is an early supporter of this project, which with other partners has a collective mission to improve the health of underserved communities.
Along with this donation, Carle will also bring the Carle Mobile Health Clinic to the Martens Center once a month. The Mobile Clinic will provide affordable, non-urgent medical services to the surrounding neighborhood of Champaign.
Carle prioritizes the needs of the communities they serve, focusing on providing resources like the Martens Center to improve wellness with for community members’ physical and mental health.
The opening of the Martens Center was Oct. 1 and is now open to the public.
