Who’s swing bed care for?
Those needing short-term therapy and care before transitioning home. This often includes patients hospitalized for pneumonia, hip fracture, knee replacement, congestive heart failure and similar conditions.
Who’s it not for?
Swing bed care is not for those who need permanent or indefinite nursing home placement.
As a part of the swing bed program, you’ll receive skilled care to help you return home. This often includes:
- Physical therapy for mobility and other issues.
- Occupational therapy focused on daily activities such as dressing, bathing and toileting.
- Speech therapy for improved swallowing, cognition issues and other concerns.
- Intravenous therapy including antibiotics.
Most patients spend about two weeks in swing bed care. Some may stay more or fewer days based on their individual condition, prior level of functioning and how well they respond to therapy and treatment.
