Community Garden at Carle Danville Medical Office Center at The Riverfront

Bringing Healthy Food to Tables Across Our Community

Located on the Northwest Corner of The Riverfront medical campus, the Riverfront Community Garden is one part of a larger vision to bring people and organizations together to improve the lives of all our neighbors. The seeds of community health grow when local partners work together to nurture the well-being of all who call our area home.

Carle is proud of its decades-long commitment to Danville and the surrounding communities – and we’re incredibly grateful for the generous partners who helped make this garden grow.

Education dedicated to healthy living improves the health of the community members. This garden provides educational opportunities for students at every academic level with a hands-on experience in a natural space.
This space teaches the value of sustainable farm to table living and the benefits of growing their food, improving the social and economic factors that affect a community’s health.

Initiatives like The Riverfront Community Garden address the gaps in health and wellness in rural communities like Vermilion County, as well as address the higher rates of food insecurity.

Honoring Members of the Community
The Carle at The Riverfront Community Garden recognizes members of the Danville community and Carle Health team.

Vicki Haugen was the longtime Director of Vermilion Advantage and was instrumental in helping assemble the land and approvals needed to make Carle at The Riverfront a reality. She knew the positive impact that this development would have on Danville and was very passionate about this project.

She cared deeply about her community and recognized that The Riverfront would be a catalyst for further economic development, such as with this garden and the first farmers market hosted at the plaza.

Vicki unfortunately passed after her battle with cancer before she could this project come to fruition. This project would not have happened without her hard work and support.

Dr. Jay Yambert was a beloved physician who worked to improve the health of the communities he served. His passing is felt by all, and his life and work are honored in this garden.

“We have memorialized both Vicki Haugen and Dr. Jay Yambert with these plaques that honor their dedication and support for health and wellness across our communities.” - Timothy Meneely, DO

The Guiding Mission of Carle at The Riverfront

Carle at The Riverfront is the commitment of Carle Health to Danville and its surrounding communities. As the years have gone on, our patients’ needs and the services we are able to provide have increased and we have created this new location to be a health and community hub for all.

We aim to positively impact community health by offering robust and enhanced health care services designed to spur economic and community development. It has been proven that development in urban areas like Danville has a direct correlation to improving social determinants of health like food insecurity, access to housing and income level.
