Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Automation Systems Coordinator is responsible for the operational functions of the Pharmacy automated systems and focuses on the day-to-day operation and monitoring of the systems for all UnityPoint Health - Central IL locations. The Pharmacy Automation Systems Coordinator services all campuses and is responsible for the installation and maintenance of equipment, optimization of use of equipment and medication inventory, review of reports to assist the Pharmacy Operations Managers, and facilitation of training staff on use of the equipment.

Must be able to complete the Pharmacy Technician Training Program upon hire.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Operational Functions* Coordinates setup, installation, and maintenance of Pharmacy automation systems * Serves as contact between vendor technicians and health-system IT department* Performs basic system troubleshooting* Reviews reports and refers to pharmacist and/or Pharmacy Operations Manager as needed * Assist the Pharmacy Operations Managers with the following:* Maintenance of records as required by applicable laws and regulations* Policy and procedure development and review* Facilitates and monitors training of Pharmacy staff and other users of the systems (e.g., nurses) * May perform the duties of a Pharmacy Technician or Senior Pharmacy Technician as assigned* Manages the Pharmacy Automation Systems* The incumbent has a thorough understanding of the Omnicell Carousels and Automated Distribution Cabinets. * The incumbent utilizes knowledge to troubleshoot and correct automated med distribution malfunctions.* The incumbent is responsible for all the narcotic trail audits of healthcare practitioners' use of the Omnicell system.* The incumbent provides alternative solutions if immediate corrective action is not feasible or cost effective (i.e., appropriate utilization of the Omnicell support system, Chain of Command usage, etc.)* This incumbent is responsible for the investigation and reporting to the pharmacy operations manager and/or Director of Pharmacy Services any daily or open discrepancies created by pharmacy staff or nursing staff or providers.* The incumbent is responsible for the ongoing user modification to add, update, or delete users.* This position is responsible for the ongoing modification of drugs, users, and clinical data to and from the Omnicell distribution system.* The incumbent represents the Pharmacy Department at all medication distribution system related activities, meetings, and committees.* The incumbent is responsible for monitoring all system oversight reports (i.e., Pandora, Omnicell Workflow Rx, etc.)* The incumbent serves as a liaison and resource to all other departments throughout the MHSC system that utilizes the Omnicell automated med distribution technology and will work closely with the Pharmacy Analysts in the IS department.* Pharmacy Operational Responsibilities* This position is accountable for the accurate processing of charges and credits to inpatients and outpatients using the hospital computer system.* The incumbent assists with Capital equipment needs and budget expense preparation and forecasting.* The incumbent will audit the monthly floor checks, crash carts, open heart carts for compliance.* This position is responsible for completing the tasks to help improve the drug distribution system.* This position serves as the lead person for changes mandated by regulatory agencies, the approval of new drugs or lack of availability of drugs as it relates to standard operating procedures of our technician job duties.* The incumbent serves on the management team in implementing new services or functions as it relates to the technicians.* Provides front line leadership in pharmacy operations for technicians.* The incumbent will be required to work online and hands-on with the Omnicell system from time to time to stay competent and to better understand issues, workflow, and processes related to med distribution.* Provides functional guidance to pharmacy technicians on the Omnicell system.* Provides leadership in mentoring, training on the Omnicell med distribution system (Carousels and ADCs), and may review, edit, and authorize Kronos.
