Visiting Hours at Carle Foundation Hospital

Hospital visiting hours are generally from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., however we want to promote family involvement and visitation at any hour if this is desired. Please speak with your loved one’s nurse to discuss your family member’s needs. Please note these guidelines may change based on patient status. Patients may request that visitors not be allowed by speaking with their nurse.
  • Support persons may be 14 years or older, or the patient’s parent.

  • COVID positive patients - after Day 11, one support person will be permitted through the remainder of the isolation period.    

  • ​Emergency Department – one support person per patient. 
  • Intensive Care Unit – two support persons at a time during visiting hours, one of which may stay overnight.  

  • Semi-private rooms - one support person at a time.  

  • Medical-Surgical – one support person at a time during visiting hours, visitors may exchange outside of the building throughout the patient's stay. No overnight visitors except for patients with cognitive impairments; those individuals may have one overnight support person. 

  • Labor and Delivery, Postpartum - Visitors must be 18 years of age (or the baby's parent if under 18). All visitors must be healthy with no symptoms of COVID, cold, flu, or other illness. Visitors are limited to 3 designated adults. Only one visitor (age 18 or over) may stay overnight.

  • Pediatrics/Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) – two support persons allowed 24 hours a day.  

  • Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)/Level 3 Nursery – two support persons allowed 24 hours a day (must be 18 years of age or the patient's parent).  

  • Inpatient Rehab – one support person at a time during visiting hours, no overnight visitors. Visitors may exchange from outside the building throughout the patient’s stay

  • End-of-life – four support persons allowed at the bedside 24 hours a day. Support persons may rotate but must do so outside the building. If the dying patient has a child under the age of 14, the child may be allowed to enter, but only when accompanied by another adult family member. 

  • Procedures – One support person allowed with adult patient, two support persons allowed for pediatric patients. 

  • Clergy may visit during visiting hours. They do not count towards patients’ allotment of visitors at bedside.  

  • All waiting rooms (except Surgical Services) remain closed to visitors.
  • ​Vendor access is limited to those necessary for patient care.
