Endoscopy Center recognized as “best” from U.S. News & World Report

Carle Health Endoscopy Center Peoria, received the Best Colonoscopy and Endoscopy Award in the inaugural Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers ratings by U.S. News & World Report done in collaboration with CareJourney.

A global leader in quality rankings, U.S. News & World Report, joins CareJourney, a healthcare industry provider of analytics related to quality data, in rating nearly 5,000 surgery centers in four specialty areas: colonoscopy and endoscopy, ophthalmology, orthopedics and spine and urology.

Carle Health Endoscopy Center Director Andy Paulson credited the experience of the clinical and non-clinical staff with the high rating. “We have a great team here doing colonoscopies and endoscopies, which are so important to maintaining a healthy way of life. We are singularly focused on those screenings and that allows us to excel at what we do.”

The endoscopy center in Peoria is one of six in Illinois named “best” and the only downstate location.

Evaluations were based on objective, risk-adjusted measures of patient outcomes, including how successfully the center avoided complications, emergency visits, unplanned hospitalizations and other undesirable outcomes. To ensure fair comparisons, the analysis accounted for patient factors, including pre-existing conditions. U.S. News awards the designation of “Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers” only to the highest-rated surgical centers that satisfy the statistical assessment and fewer than 15% of evaluated facilities earned a “High Performing” rating.

"We appreciate the designation as one of the nation’s best ambulatory surgery centers for endoscopy and colonoscopy screenings, particularly during a time when those procedures continue to grow in importance for identifying issues, treating patients, and helping save lives. This is a validation of the hard work and quality provided by Carle Health physicians and our staff in Greater Peoria,” Scott Wu, MD, medical director, Carle Health Endoscopy Center Peoria, said.

The center in Peoria, formerly known as Central Illinois Endoscopy Center, supports 10,000 procedures per year, or about 45 patients per day. Paulson said the evaluation of data by an independent group is gratifying and reinforces the staff’s attitude of focusing on providing a high-quality experience with every patient, every day.

Patient satisfaction surveys at the Carle Health Endoscopy Center regularly make note of the attentive, efficient and compassionate care by nurses and other staff members.
