Women’s Health Services at Carle offers a CenteringPregnancy Program that allows pregnant women to learn from each other and spend more time with their medical provider.
What is CenteringPregnancy?
The program combines a personal health check up with your provider along with group information sessions on prenatal and newborn care.
How it works
CenteringPregnancy begins around the 12th week of pregnancy. Sessions are held once a month, then more frequently as you get closer to your delivery date. Each session lasts about two hours and is conducted by a nurse midwife and a nurse or medical assistant. During this time, you will also have your private, regular check up with your provider. Your partner is encouraged to attend.
- Healthy Lifestyle
- Body Changes
- Fetal Development
- The Birth Experience
- Newborn Care
The program is offered various days and times, including evenings and weekends. Sessions always start and end on time, so there is no wait time for your appointment. You will be part of a group of women who are all at the same stage of pregnancy.
Benefits to you
The CenteringPregnancy program increases the support system that women have during this important time of their lives. Research shows participation in these types of programs results in improved outcomes for both the mother and baby including greater satisfaction with prenatal care, decreased risk of preterm birth, and increased breastfeeding rates. You will be better prepared to care for yourself during your pregnancy, and more confident caring for your baby.
If you are interested in participating in this program, please talk with your medical provider about the next session.
