Carle tops East Central Illinois’ list of best hospitals

Robert Healy, MD, Carle chief quality officer, said the recently released U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals list verifies the employee efforts to strive for patient-centered improvements and quality care.

Carle ranks 13 out of 215 Illinois hospitals in this year’s Best Hospitals list and Carle Foundation Hospital, Carle BroMenn Medical Center and Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center top the list for East Central Illinois.

Rankings like these help health care consumers make informed decisions about where to receive care for life-threatening conditions and for common elective procedures.

This year, U.S. News and World Report rated Carle Foundation Hospital (CFH) as high performing in these three adult specialties:

  • Gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery
  • Nephrology
  • Pulmonary and lung surgery

Additionally, the magazine rated CFH as high performing for the following procedures/conditions:

  • Heart failure
  • Heart bypass surgery
  • Knee replacement
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD)

And ranked Carle BroMenn Medical Center as high performing in:

  • Heart failure treatment
  • Colon cancer surgery
  • Hip replacement

“We are frequently called upon to clearly communicate quality information, such as infections, readmissions and surgery success. This recognition reflects the superior quality and dedication of our physicians and staff in an easy to digest platform,” Dr. Healy said.

In its 31st annual Best Hospitals list, the magazine evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals in 16 adult medical specialties, 10 adult procedures or conditions and 10 pediatric specialties.

“We’re proud of our multidisciplinary approach to care at Carle, and the ability to provide evidence-based, up-to-date care to our patients,” Vishesh Paul, MD, Pulmonary Medicine said. “Receiving national recognition for pulmonary medicine and surgery is a matter of great pride for our team. We believe this is a result of excellent collaboration between our medical and surgical specialists that work together to treat all types of lung problems including cancer.”
