Carle Foundation Hospital

  • Hugs® newborn security system ensures your baby is safe in our locked unit at all times.

  • Level III Perinatal Services, including our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), provide high-risk mothers and newborns the highest level of care.
  • Prenatal and postnatal classes, wellness programs and other services available at Carle Foundation Hospital. Class locations vary between Champaign and Urbana locations.
Your Care Team
  • Your newborn attending provider will be a hospital pediatrician, advanced practice provider or family medicine physician.
  • A wide range of consulting providers – including cardiology, urology, audiology and other specialists – are available when needed.
  • Your postpartum attending provider will be an obstetrician, family medicine physician or certified nurse midwife.
  • Your dyad nurse coordinates and administers care for both you and your baby.
  • A newborn nursery nurse watches your baby for the first 12 hours if closer monitoring is needed. She may also help the dyad nurse with your newborn’s required testing.
  • Healthcare technicians assist the nurses and help with birth certificates.
  • Certified lactation consultants are available during your stay and can continue offering support after you leave the hospital.
Visitors
  • You can have five support visitors in your room at a time. Special visiting restrictions may apply due to COVID-19, during flu season and at other times.  


Carle BroMenn Medical Center

  • Cribs for Kids® National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification designation as a Safe Sleep Hospital. 
  • Dyad care allows one nurse to care for both mother and baby, promoting continuity of care and education throughout your stay.
  • Obstetrician onsite 24/7.
  • Board certified neonatologists available to be onsite 24/7.
  • Rooming-in promotes bonding and successful breastfeeding.
  • Lactation support including certified lactation consultants, hospital grade breast pumps, and assessment, evaluation and education for successful breastfeeding. All your caregivers are extensively trained to assist and support breastfeeding.
  • Up to two lactation follow-up appointments are available after you leave the hospital and within one month of delivery.
  • Intermediate care nursery available for any urgent needs in the stabilization of your infant.
  • Delayed bathing to help with newborn temperature control, from 12 – 24 hours based on your baby’s needs.
  • Hugs® newborn security system ensures your baby is safe in our locked unit at all times.
  • Circumcision available for male infants upon request and assessment.
  • Completion of state required testing for newborns and infant monitoring, including congenital heart screening, jaundice monitoring and hearing tests.

  • Prenatal and postnatal classes, wellness programs and other services available at Carle BroMenn Medical Center and Carle Health & Fitness Center.
Your Care Team
  • An obstetrician is present 24/7 to care for you, if necessary.
  • Neonatologists (specialists in sick or premature babies) are available to be on-site 24/7.
  • You choose a provider for your newborn from multiple local providers with nursery privileges. 
  • A wide range of consulting providers/specialists are available when needed.
  • Your nurse coordinates and administers care for both you and your baby.
  • A newborn nursery nurse is available to assist in caring for your baby if closer monitoring is needed and may also help your nurse with your newborn's required testing.
  • Healthcare technicians assist the nurses and help with birth certificates.
  • Internationally board-certified lactation consultants, certified lactation counselors and certified breastfeeding counselors provide comprehensive lactation services, during and after your hospital stay.
Visitors
  • Our “mother’s choice” approach lets you arrange visiting hours according to your preferences. You consult with your nurses to make a plan for your hospital stay that includes rest and recovery, time for new parent bonding, support for infant care and feeding, and time for visiting hours. Special visiting restrictions may apply due to COVID-19, during flu season and at other times.  


Carle Richland Memorial Hospital

  • Dedicated nursery services from a specialized nursery nurse and care team. Dyad care may also be provided, depending on staffing levels.
  • Rooming-in promotes bonding and successful breastfeeding.
  • Lactation support including certified breastfeeding specialists, hospital grade breast pumps, and assessment, evaluation and education for successful breastfeeding. All your caregivers are extensively trained to assist and support breastfeeding.
  • Newborn nursery available for any urgent needs in the stabilization of your infant.
  • Delayed bathing to help with newborn temperature control, from 12 – 24 hours based on your baby’s needs.
  • Hugs® newborn security system ensures your baby is safe in our locked unit at all times.
  • Circumcision available for male infants upon request and assessment.
  • Completion of state required testing for newborns and infant monitoring, including congenital heart screening, jaundice monitoring and hearing tests.
  • Education on postpartum and newborn risks.
  • Our Level II Perinatal Services, if needed, provide care to mothers and newborns at moderate risk.
  • Prenatal and postnatal classes available at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.
Your Care Team
  • You choose your newborn attending provider among our multiple providers with nursery privileges. Or you can use the provider who’s on call during your stay with us, and afterwards follow up with your own provider of choice (for example, if they’re not affiliated with our hospital).
  • A wide range of consulting providers – including cardiology, urology, audiology and other specialists – are available when needed.
  • You’ll receive postpartum care from one of our obstetricians.
  • Your nursery nurse coordinates and administers care for your baby.
  • A newborn nursery nurse watches your baby for the first 12 hours if closer monitoring is needed. She may also help with your newborn’s required testing.
  • Certified breastfeeding specialists are available during your stay.
Visitors
  • Due to COVID-19, we currently allow only one visitor. When we return to our normal policies, two adult visitors will be allowed during labor and the first two hours following delivery. Visitors are not allowed to trade out for another person. If your baby is delivered by C-section, the number is limited to one adult visitor. After the first two hours following delivery, siblings accompanied by two additional adults are allowed.
